The Difficulties of Snow

Hard to believe! Hickory, NC was gifted with 7+ inches beginning on Friday morning. It took many by surprise with few snowstorms recorded in the area before Christmas since the "old" days. SUVs tumbled into the ditch with the trusting vehicles following suit. The stores of bread and milk depleted quickly from the grocery shelves. These are the staples of the foothill's residents for a snowy interlude. Snow Cream must be created and consumed for breakfast which is mostly likely followed by eggs and livermush, another local savory staple.

Hickory Shows Off Its Artistry

Hickory is readying for the holidays. Not only are we considering which concert, play, or party we are going to attend but we are stepping back and looking at the simple pleasures of Western NC. The shedding of hardwoods remind us of our favorite sweaters hiding in their cedar chests.

Indian Summer and Oktoberbest

October brings an array of scenarios into our daily lives that completely separate us from summer: cool breezes push away the fog from the Carolina blue skies while the strong rays of the autumn sun permeate the windshields to warm our cars and the shortened days and longer nights make us consider the approaching holidays.

Hickory and Its Happenings

It's already halfway thru September and the phone is still not ringing.  How can it be? Advertising is in place. When will the citizens of the US feel more comfortable about stepping out their doors and spending their $$? It feels like the time is right around the corner, in just the next minute but that very next minute seems to get tied up in more red tape or bad press. I'm waiting and trying very hard to be patient. It is coming.....and Lake Hickory Realty will be ready to serve it up!

Struggling thru the Economy

Real estate this year though difficult has had its good points. First of all, we, Realtors, have found that we must work much harder and that fact has weeded out a lot of agents who thought this would be an easy job to make the big bucks. haha.

Introduction to Real Estate in Hickory, NC

My first entry will help you get acquainted with me, my company Lake Hickory Realty, LLC and Hickory, NC.

My family moved to the foothills of NC in the fall of 1996 from Texas via Minneapolis (brrr). The Unifour, as Hickory was called, it lays in 4 counties:Alexander, Burke, Caldwell and Catawba, had just been put on the map with the Readers Digest's Best Place to Raise a Family award along with Lenoir, the county seat of Caldwell and Morganton, the county seat of Burke. Before the story broke, the local chambers had been mailing an average of 3 relocation packets a month to prospective newcomers. After the magazine hit the shelves, they were sending out over 300 every week. Baby Boomers had found Western NC and liked the possibilities of retirement on the lake and/or near the mountains. Investors came in droves. Developments popped up on all the area lakes and their developers flew buyers in from up and down the East Coast.
