Hickory Shows Off Its Artistry

Hickory is readying for the holidays. Not only are we considering which concert, play, or party we are going to attend but we are stepping back and looking at the simple pleasures of Western NC. The shedding of hardwoods remind us of our favorite sweaters hiding in their cedar chests.

Throw on your warm coats and head to downtown Hickory Thursday for a couple of artistic events. Julia Rush is celebrating her 30 year anniversary in business with a weekend sale from 2 - 8 pm with 25% off everything in the store. She will be performing with Nathan Hefner that evening from 5-7 pm. The sale continues through the weekend.

Taste Full Beans is hosting "A Foothills Painters Art Exhibit" at their coffee house Thursday evening from 5:30 - 7:30 pm. The exhibition will feature oils, watercolors, acrylics, abstract and traditional paintings, photography, jewelry, note cards, prints and hand painted silk scarves. Refreshments will be served, so stop by if you can.

On a completely different note. Fiserv, Inc, a financial technology company, is bringing 400+ jobs to help ease the 14% unemployment rate!!! woot, woot! Maybe, a couple of those folks will decide to buy a home.

Google brought Target which brought Apple and now Fiserv. Who's next to grab up our cheap dirt and labor force.? Bring it on!

The smaller bits: My daughter visited Valparaiso, Chile last weekend. My husband's bees are winding down for the season. I learned Brenda Story is Sherry Gorman's mom. My lab is 12 years old. I'm making a t-shirt quilt so a trip to Mary Jo's in Gastonia is in order. Laser tag sounds fun. The sun sets earlier. 3" of rain fall is a too much. Texas BBQ is the best. Neighbors can brighten your day. One dinosaur and a zombie does not make Halloween but kids today melt in the rain. Life goes on and on. Sometimes that is good, sometimes it's not.

Highs in the 60s, lows in the 40s. The best weather surrounds us this week. The photo is from my drive to High Peak Mtn today to look at a property with a long range view of the Blue Ridge Mtns. Rather easy on the eyes.
