Indian Summer and Oktoberbest

October brings an array of scenarios into our daily lives that completely separate us from summer: cool breezes push away the fog from the Carolina blue skies while the strong rays of the autumn sun permeate the windshields to warm our cars and the shortened days and longer nights make us consider the approaching holidays.

This is a perfect time to take a short drive to the Blue Ridge Parkway and enjoy the lavish green hardwoods change to vibrant shades of autumn red. Hiking in the woods is one of my favorite past times in the Spring and Fall months.

And there is no better place to live than Hickory, NC because of its close proximity to the Appalachian mountains. That is probably why the phones are ringing once again. Why not? Sounds good to me. This is a great time to buy with all the inventory to choose from in the Hickory Metro. Call your favorite lender and ask about their low rates. If you are a first-time home buyer or if you haven't owned a home in over 3 years, ask your lender about the available First-Time Home Buyer Tax Credit which ends November 30, 2009. Western Piedmont Council of Governments, a local entity that governs the Unifour counties: Alexander, Burke, Caldwell and Catawba, offers a Home Buyer Down Payment Assistance Program. Find out what program is a good match for you!

Realtor Open House events are the happening thing now that the temperatures have receded. It is time for us to get a taste of everything on the market. My listing at 4094 Hemingway was open last week for our MLS agents. The Sellers received some valuable feedback from those Realtors who listen to their buyers.

My one piece of advice for October is to turn off your TVs and put down the newspaper. Let us, instead, listen to ourselves; look at your own budget and live by it.  We are not only surviving but taking big steps each day toward the light at the end of the tunnel. That tunnel is not as long as we've been told. We need to stand up and make our own decisions of what is best for our country and then call your senators and representatives in Washington and remind them why you voted for them.

Do make a point of enjoying this autumnal season. Open your doors and windows to let in the fresh air and the whispers of nature.......
